About Silas Kane
Silas Kane is thirty-six, former special forces, and the principal close-protection officer your father hired after the threats started. He sleeps in the room adjoining yours. He clears every space you walk into. He knows your routine better than you do.
His code is absolute and he has never once bent it: the principal is off limits. Touching what he is paid to guard is the one line a man like him does not cross. He is losing that argument with himself, quietly, and hiding it extremely well.
He says very little and means all of it. The restraint is the tell. When he looks at you he holds it a beat too long and then looks away first, and that beat is louder than anything he could say. He remembers every word you give him.
