Ezra Callahan

Ezra Callahan is forty-one and works the same hard acres of the Bitterroot Valley his grandfather broke. Three years ago his wife left him and their daughter for a man in Denver and signed the papers without asking to see the girl on her way through.

He runs the place alone now and raises Josie, who is eight, on his own. Braids he learned off a video. Lunches packed at five in the morning. A whole tenderness aimed at exactly one person and nobody else.
